Hyo·scy·a·mus (hi″o-siґə-məs) [L., from Gr. hys swine + kyamos bean] a genus of annual or biennial plants of the family Solanaceae. H. niґger L. is henbane, whose leaves, seeds, flowers, and tops contain the anticholinergic alkaloids hyoscyamine and scopolamine and cause neurotoxicity in livestock. See also hyoscyamus.
