pneumococcal vaccine polyvalent

(PPSV) a 23-valent vaccine containing capsular polysaccharide from the 23 most prevalent or invasive serovars of Streptococcus pneumoniae, which are responsible for about 90 per cent of pneumococcal disease in the United States. Administered intramuscularly or subcutaneously for immunization of persons over 2 years of age at increased risk for the disease or its complications.
