Clos·tri·dia (klos-tridґe-ə) a class of bacteria of the phylum Firmicutes, consisting of gram-positive or gram-negative, aerobic to anaerobic rods or cocci; some are thermophilic and a number are pathogenic. Medically important organisms are included in the order Clostridiales.
