Serratia marcescens

the species most frequently isolated from human infections, divided into a number of biogroups on the basis of pigmentation and physiological and nutritional characteristics; it is an opportunistic pathogen, causing nosocomial bacteremia, endocarditis, and pneumonia in immunocompromised patients.
