Com·pos·i·tae (kəm-pozґĭ-te) a large family of flowering herbs, shrubs, and trees having composite flower heads in which a number of small florets are on each head; many well-known genera such as Chrysanthemum, the sunflowers, and the dandelions are in this family. Called also Asteraceae.
