A subfamily of Herpesviridae containing Simplexvirus and Varicellavirus.

Al·pha·her·pes·vi·ri·nae (al″fə-hur″pēz-vir-iґne) the herpes simplex virus and related viruses, a subfamily of Herpesviridae. Genera of medical and veterinary importance include Iltovirus, Mardivirus, Simplexvirus, and Varicellovirus.
